How we count

Every number on this page comes from official British and Irish results and is counted twice: once from our own results database and once from our data provider's totals for the same trainer, jockey or horse over the same dates. If the two disagree by even one runner, that line is left off the page. Today 1 line was left off for that reason.

  • Form covers the 14 days up to yesterday, every course in Britain and Ireland, flat and jumps together.
  • Records at a track cover the last 12 months, and only the same type of racing as today: a flat trainer's record at Southwell does not include its jumps meetings.
  • Horse records go back to the horse's first run. Our archive is complete from July 2018, so horses aged ten and over are left out rather than shown with a record that could be missing early runs.
  • Non-runners are not counted. Pulled up, fell and unseated count as runs that did not win.

These are facts about form, not tips. Our own selections, with the reasoning, are on today's tips, and every result is on the record.

Questions

What does “in form” mean here?

A trainer whose runners have been winning often in Britain and Ireland over the last 14 days. The table lists stables with at least 8 runners and 3 winners in that time, ordered by the share of runners that won. Jockeys need at least 15 rides and 4 winners.

Why 14 days, and what is the 30-day column for?

Fourteen days is short enough to catch a yard that is firing now, and long enough that one good afternoon does not make a trainer “in form”. The 30-day figures show whether it is a fresh burst or a longer run of winners.

Does a trainer in form mean their runners will win today?

No. A hot spell usually means the stable’s horses are healthy and running to their best, and bookmakers know that too. Treat it as one piece of context alongside the form of the horse itself.

Where do the numbers come from?

Official British and Irish results. Every figure is counted twice: once from our own results database and once from our data provider’s own totals. If the two do not match exactly, the line is left off the page.

Do non-runners and fallers count?

Non-runners do not count. A horse that pulls up, falls or unseats its rider counts as a runner that did not win, the same as in official records.

How far back do the horse course records go?

To the horse’s first run. Our results archive is complete back to July 2018, so we only show horses aged nine or younger, who could not have raced before then. Older horses are left out rather than shown with a record that might be missing early runs.
